Why does prostatitis develop? Possible causes and risk factors

There are many reasons that cause an inflammatory process in the prostate (prostatitis). These include various sexually transmitted diseases (gonorrhea, trichomoniasis), hormonal disorders, overweight, smoking and alcohol consumption.

Prostatitis is an inflammation of the prostate that causes discomfort, interferes with sexual function, and can cause inflammation of the testicles and adrenal glands, which eventually leads to infertility. The pathology is observed in men of different ages, but most often after 35-40 years. There can be several reasons for the development of prostatitis.

Acute and chronic infectious processes as a factor in the development of prostatitis

It is often the case that the inflammatory process in the prostate is caused by the activity of infectious agents. The disease develops due to the penetration of the infection into the prostate gland, the onset of which has been provoked by other diseases. Due to their development, the immune system is weakened and the reproductive process of the pathogenic microflora begins.

Inflammation of the prostate is caused by:

  • gonococci (pathogens of gonorrhea);
  • chlamydia (pathogens of chlamydia);
  • Trichomonas (pathogens of trichomoniasis);
  • cochus bacillus (the causative agent of tuberculosis);
  • candida fungi (pathogens of candidiasis).

In addition, prostatitis develops under the influence of Escherichia coli, enterococcus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, staphylococcus.

Violation of blood circulation in the pool area

Stagnation of blood and fluid in the pelvic area is the result of damaged blood flow in the vessels of this area. This phenomenon is related to factors such as a sedentary lifestyle, sedentary work, wearing too tight, tight underwear or tight jeans and pants, and being overweight. Slow blood flow can lead to disorders of the work of the heart muscle, diseases of the nervous system.

In the presence of such factors, the blood does not flow in sufficient quantities to the prostate. This causes a lack of oxygen and increases the risk of developing an inflammatory process.

Prolonged abstinence from sexual intercourse, frequent interruptions of intercourse

If a man has not had sex for a long time, and if he uses interrupted sex as a method of contraception, it triggers prostatitis.

In the presence of these factors, a special fluid accumulates in the prostate - a secret that ensures the viability and mobility of sperm and is normally removed from it. In the case of abstinence and interruption of sexual intercourse, the prostate remains or is only partially excreted due to lack of ejaculation.

Congestion causes an increase in the size of the organ and inflammation.

Hormonal disorders

The hormonal imbalance in which testosterone production is interrupted causes an inflammatory process to develop in the prostate.

Hormonal disorders occur due to the following phenomena:

  • disorders of the glands and organs of the endocrine system (thyroid, adrenal glands, pituitary gland);
  • testicular injury in which testosterone is produced;
  • lack of physical activity;
  • acute and chronic poisoning;
  • malnutrition;
  • frequent stress;
  • lives in an unfavorable ecological environment;
  • tumor neoplasms.

Prostatitis can also be caused by a decrease and a sharp rise in male sex hormone levels.

Injury and hypothermia

Mechanical damage to the pelvic organs and perineum causes congestion of the prostate, leading to inflammation. If the injuries are severe, they can cause chronic prostatitis.

lumbar pain with prostatitis

Hypothermia in the pelvic region, which occurs as a result of prolonged residence of a cover or incorrect choice of clothing (not due to the weather), also causes an acute inflammatory process in the prostate. Importantly, hypothermia reduces the body’s defenses, which are unable to fight the developing disease under such conditions.

Constant nervous tension

Prostatitis can be psychological in nature. The risk group includes men who regularly experience stress, persistent sleep deprivation and chronic fatigue, and also experience persistently increased mental stress.

The trigger in this case is the production of specific "stressful" substances - so the nervous system responds to the situation. Under these conditions, the risk of developing inflammation increases.

Bad habits and unhealthy diet

Alcohol and smoking negatively affect blood vessels, making them flexible and fragile. As a result, the blood supply to the prostate is reduced, and the gland receives less nutrients and oxygen. Under such conditions, inflammation develops.

Harmful foods: fatty and fried foods, semi-finished products, canned food, pickles, and beverages such as strong tea and coffee, sweet soda reduce immunity. Because of this, the body is unable to fight the pathogens that cause inflammation of the prostate.

Digestive problems that cause frequent constipation

If a person has irregular bowel movements or frequent constipation, dysbiosis develops: in this case, the ratio of beneficial and harmful microflora in the gastrointestinal tract changes to the latter. As a result, immunity decreases and the body's susceptibility to pathogens increases. In addition, stool retention promotes the absorption of toxins into the colon, which also negatively affects the body’s protective function.

Prostatitis is a disease that can cause infertility. This discrepancy occurs for a number of reasons: from pelvic organ injuries to psychological factors. Finding out and eliminating the cause of inflammation of the prostate can be a step forward in treating the pathology.
